Experience & Projects

FSAE Formula Electric at Berkeley (FEB)January 2026 – Present
Chassis EngineerBerkeley, California
  • Wrote Python scripts to derive a 1215 N·m/deg torsional stiffness target from vehicle dynamics parameters, setting the governing structural requirement for the space-frame chassis.
  • Built a parametric ANSYS torsional stiffness model of the space frame and optimized tube wall thickness, diameter, and node-to-node triangulation with DesignXplorer and optiSLang. Cut chassis mass 8% (31.5 kg to 29.0 kg) at 1285 N·m/deg, above the target.
  • Designed and fabricated the autonomous sensing hardware in SolidWorks on Bambu Lab FDM printers: an adjustable jig to find the best LiDAR angle, a permanent chassis mount, and three rule-compliant lighting fixtures, with part orientation, infill, and impact resistance tuned for each.
  • Battery: resolved recurring warping on a battery-module bracket by moving it from carbon-fiber FDM to SLA. Chose a resin for 40g (z) / 20g (x, y) module loads, pack heat, and UV aging, and verified it with hand calculations and eyebolt load tests of the printed threads. On track to be the first SLA-printed part on the car (June 2027).

Mechanical Engineering Intern, Sipdisk (Start-up)June – August 2026
San Francisco, California
  • Designed a compact, discreet fluidics device that screens beverages for substances linked to drug-facilitated assault, combining buffer chemistry with test-strip detection. Modeled in SolidWorks and prototyped on Bambu Lab FDM and Formlabs Form 3/4 SLA printers.
  • Worked with contract manufacturers to develop blister pods for buffer packaging, and with the test-strip supplier to verify environmental and handling conditions met spec.

Mechanical Chalk PenJanuary – May 2026
  • Modeled all components in SolidWorks and prototyped on Formlabs Form 3/4, choosing resins (Tough 1500 V2, Rigid 10K, Clear V5) by role. Applied GD&T and tolerance stack-up to the sliding and threaded interfaces, resolving binding for a consistent mechanism feel.
  • Set supports and orientation in PreForm to protect critical surfaces, and added 0.5 mm drain holes to non-critical geometry to pass cupping validation without affecting functional faces.

3D-Printed Wind TurbineSeptember – December 2025
  • Modeled a turbine blade in SolidWorks with an S1223 airfoil for high lift at low Reynolds numbers, optimized for power output and structural stiffness.
  • Predicted tower deflection, stress, and safety factor with FEA (SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS) before fabrication: 0.4224 mm maximum deflection. Validated with a dial indicator and wire-pulley load rig, measuring 0.39 mm at 9.81 N.

  • One of 25 students in a residential research program. Designed a scaled soft pneumatic twisting actuator in Onshape under Dr. Xiaobo Tan, optimizing four geometry parameters with parametric FEA in Abaqus using a Yeoh hyperelastic model.
  • Cast the actuator in Dragon Skin 20 silicone using a resin-printed mold with a sacrificial FDM wax core, and validated it experimentally with OptiTrack motion capture.
